In exchange, you lose Transmutation and Conjuration, which are two of the more useless schools of magic. Evoker – Pillars of Eternity 2 WizardĮvoker gets +2 power level in Evocation spells which is finally a worthwhile and significant bonus because Meteor Shower, all the missile spells, fireball, basically all the best damaging spells are Evocation, so +2 power level is a significant increase in efficacy. You lose access to Enchanting and Evocation, which is bizarre because Enchanting would have been the school that synergizes with this weird Ogre ability, and Evocation, as mentioned above, is basically all the best damaging abilities. You can’t cast spells as an Ogre and the Ogre form is terribly useful. It also gives you the ability to transform into an Ogre which is a poor man’s Druid shapeshift. Transmuter actually benefits from power level, so that’s good. Transmutation is not that big a deal (it has some great spells though, like Freezing Pillar), but losing Illusion sucks and is totally not worth it. But, at least you’re not giving up Conjuring this time. Once again, power level has almost no effective on Enchantments. Enchanter – Pillars of Eternity 2 WizardĮnchanter, like Conjurer, is not very good. Evocation contains basically every damaging spell in the game, and Illusion is also a very useful magic school. In exchange for gaining almost nothing, you lose access to the Evocation and Illusion schools of magic. For one thing, Conjuring spells don’t really benefit significantly from power level, so you’re gaining almost nothing. Of all the Wizard subclasses, Conjurer is probably worst. As you can probably gather, that’s a huge penalty and for that reason Wizard subclasses are generally not very good (except for Evoker) unless you’re going to something very specific. Wizard subclasses all work the same way: the magic school of the associated subclass gains +2 power level, all other schools have +10% recovery time, and you lose access to two entire schools of magic.
